What We Are Looking For

As an IT & Security Specialist, you will work closely with and report to the senior security officer, who will provide assistance and on-the-job training. The candidate should have an interest in corporate and data center operations with a focus on data security and privacy.

Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to Santa Barbara, CA.


  • Assist with completion of TPA (third party assessment) documents for potential customers.
  • Evangelize security within Carpe Data and be an advocate for customer trust.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute security related company policies.
    • Enforce and ensure employee and system compliance with security policies such as Acceptable Use and Access Control policies.
  • Manage security awareness training for the company.
    • Create and execute security awareness training campaigns.
    • Implement and monitor phishing security test campaigns for the company.
  • Assist in the security related tasks with onboarding of employees.
  • Manage corporate IT assets (employee workstations, networks, printers) with initial deployment and maintenance tasks.
  • Manage corporate desktop/workstation configurations to enforce firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware and other security related items.
  • Execute and review monthly user activity reports to identify any suspicious access.
  • Stay up to date with current vulnerabilities, attacks, and countermeasures.
  • Work with software development teams to proactively assess risk, fix security issues, and provide policy guidance.
  • Create and track security investigations to resolution.
  • Assist with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery tests.
  • Monitor and analyze network traffic, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), security events and logs.
    • Prioritize and differentiate between potential intrusion attempts and false alarms

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Comfortable with technical documentation
  • Able to use Microsoft Excel/Word and Google Docs/Sheets
  • Able to communicate security events, potential impacts, and actions taken to higher-tier resolvers and management team
  • Great attention to detail and analytical abilities

Bonus Skills

  • Familiarity with various network and host-based security applications and tools, such as network and host assessment/scanning tools, network and host based intrusion detection systems, and other security software packages.
  • Ability to use assessment tools and other security tools found in large network environments; along with ability to work with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions.
  • Experience with Anti-Virus, Intrusion Detection Systems, Firewalls, Vulnerability management.
  • Project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • Working knowledge/experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Linux administration
